What Are Waistbeads?
Waistbeads are a traditional African body adornment (originating in Nigeria) that consists of small to medium beads, crystals, charms, etc, strung on string, elastic, or wire. They were worn as symbols of womanhood, fertility, spirituality, and femininity. They were, also, sometimes worn as a way to tell socioeconomic status or marital status. In many traditions, they were only to be shown to your lover. Waistbeads have been worn as early as the 15th century and have recently become increasingly more popular within the last 10-15 years.
Waistbeads VS The 21st Century
Much like many traditions, the art of waistbead wearing has grown over the centuries. One of the biggest uses for waistbeads for most people today, is as an alternative to body weight scales. Others use them to help build confidence or to heal from physical and /or emotional trauma. All of these are great reasons but it is important to learn, understand, and remember the history and significance of waistbeads. Waistbeads have long represented sisterhood, family, and love and Soul Raine Bodyworks will continue to promote these values!

Helpful Information

Important Info Before Purchasing
In order to help you have the best experience with SRB, here are some imortant things to keep in mind when purchasing! If you have any other questions, please dont hesitate to reach out and ask!

Choose the Perfect Style
The style of waistbead you get strongly depends on your needs and lifestyle. Here's a breakdown of the three styles we offer to help you make your decision!

Color Symbolisms
Each color has it's own spiritual significance. Choosing a color is no small task. It is best to read the entire list and choose the colors that speak to your soul the most; whether it's one color or all of them.

How to Measure for Waistbead
Wrap your tape measure around the place you want your waistbead to rest. Where the 0 and other number meet is your measurement. Inches is the preferred unit of measurement.
Where your waistbead rests is all about YOUR preference. (If you are planning to lose weight, measuring higher will be more helpful in that journey as you will be able to see your waistbeads drop lower better than if you measure them to rest lower.)

Meet the Owner
My name is Kristy Browning and I am the owner of Soul Raine Bodyworks LLC. I am the mother of a beautiful little girl, whom my business is affectionately named after. Creating waistbeads began as a hobby for me but quickly grew into something more intimate and passionate. I began to see how much I was changing and growing spiritually and mentally and knew I HAD to spread that to others. Creating these pieces is about more than just looking and feeling good: it's about promoting inner change.
